About the award

The Croatian Ethnological Society has established the annual Milovan Gavazzi Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award for an exceptional and continuous contribution to the advancement of the discipline of ethnology. The award is named after the Croatian world-renowned ethnologist Milovan Gavazzi (Gospić, March 18 1895 – Zagreb, January 20, 1992).

The annual “Milovan Gavazzi” award and the “Milovan Gavazzi” lifetime achievement award are given. The annual award can be given to individuals and groups – museums, institutions and other legal entities, and the lifetime achievement award to outstanding individuals.

The annual Milovan Gavazzi Award is given for the following categories: museum work, research and teaching, preservation of cultural heritage, popularization of the discipline and student work.

The Milovan Gavazzi lifetime achievement award is given to an individual for outstanding and continuous contribution to the advancement of the discipline of ethnology through work published, exhibited or otherwise presented.
